Jewel of the day: Lanvin crystal heart necklace

This archival piece from Alber Elbaz’s decade at Lanvin has been dusted off and reissued.

When a heart is this oversized, it loses any sense of girlish sweetness and takes on a harder edge. The dark and gritty pewter setting also sweeps away any fluttery sentiment. Worn as it is here over a bold colour, it really makes a great statement. Available at Net-A-Porter for USD $1790.

Happy anniversary, Alber, and happy Valentine’s Day to you. Hope it is filled with glitz, glamour and love.

Jewel of the day: Lanvin Path of Stars choker

Ah, the ribbon tie, made popular by Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz and shown here with a 1930s-esque star an horse motif with glass pearls. This is similar to the Jean Cocteau pieces designed for Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1930s … everything old is new again. Yours for €1,550 on the Lanvin site.

Jewel of the day: Flash Trash Alber Elbaz necklace

If you live for fashion, Flash Trash has the accessories for you – pendants with fashion icons Susie Menkes, Anna Wintour, Yves Saint Laurent, Karl Lagerfeld and Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz.  Made of enamelled silver plated tin, hung on a silver plated chain, these are available for £130.00. Though I have to wonder if Elbaz and Co. wouldn’t have insisted on solid sterling silver at least …

Jewel of the day: Lanvin fall winter 2010 necklace

Remember those ribbon tied, pearl woven and plastic bead necklaces Lanvin pushed into the mainstream? Maybe they got tired of being knocked off by Banana Republic and others, because for fall winter 2010, Alber Elbaz has gone to a dark place. The models looked like the love child of Morticia Addams and Ozzy Osbourne, and the jewellery had a feral (think massive tiger teeth necklaces and metal studs) and brutal quality. Something tells me these will be a lot harder to knock off.

If you crave the look of gothic churches, methinks Lanvin’s fall accessories will be right up your alley (or should that be chancel…)
