Thoughts on jewelry, accessories and whatever else takes my fancy

Jewel of the day: Yael Sonia Perpetual Motion blue quartz bracelet

When an online jewellery group to which I belong was discussing Yael Sonia’s work, I went back to have a look (having featured her earrings last year). The major criticism, they concluded, is that it would be difficult to wear. While I can see that is probably likely, this 14k bracelet with freely moving quartz beads does have its appeal. It sells for USD $35,000 on the designers site, as well as at retail locations.

Jewel of the day: Karma El Khalil Dancing Pyramid earrings

New York-based designer Karma El Khalil plays with form, structure and movement in her jewellery. These Dancing Pyramid earrings in gold and diamonds would move beautifully and help accent the brilliance of the diamonds. El Khalil’s work is sold at LA’s Roseark, where these earrings sell for USD $12,000.

For celeb sightings you can check El Khalil’s blog here.

Jewel of the day: Louis Vuitton Yayoi Kusama yellow gold and lacquer pumpkin charm

Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama has collaborated with Louis Vuitton to design a range of items (bags, shoes, scarves, sunglasses and jewellery). Her work is based in conceptual art with a strong pop art bent (at least in this collection, which features dots and Op Art looking waves).

This 18k yellow gold pumpkin charm is accented with black lacquer. It is available on the Louis Vuitton stores for USD $7,900, and can be worn as a pendant or on a charm bracelet.

Jewel of the day: 3Shahs Candy Coated Generosity necklace

3Shahs is a Canadian line designed by Shah Emily Noaman. She recently launched an e-commerce element to her web site, and there you can find this exuberant necklace, among other hand-crafted items.

This is a 40-inch lariat, describe by Noaman as, “Irregular shaped dandelion, turquoise & bermude purple mother of pearl, coin fuschia mother of pearl, textured floral, round verbena green & mango spice orange wood, jewel-toned seed bead, oval & faceted fire agate, carved glass verbena leaf & ladybug, two-tone black & silver link chain.” Available online for Cdn $148.

Jewel of the day: Marie Todd Laurel ring

This ring, by jeweller Marie Todd, has a wonderful sense of ornamentation that echoes rich embroidery. Although it would make a pretty wedding band, it is equally pretty as an everyday gold ring, married or not. Available from the designer for USD $1050. Also available in sterling silver.

Jewel of the day: Victor Canera vintage style diamond earrings

Victor Canera is perhaps better known for his diamond engagement and wedding band designs. But he also offers a range of other jewellery, including these pretty and very wearable diamond drop earrings fashioned in a vintage style. Crafted in platinum, it says they feature close to a half carat of diamonds (doesn’t specify if this is per earring or total carat weight, but I suspect the latter based on the photo) and retail through his site for USD $3,695.

Jewel of the day: Assael golden pearl and diamond necklace

Renowned pearl jeweller Assael offers this exquisite diamond necklace with a centrepiece of an approximately 14mm  golden South Sea pearl. Set in 18k white and yellow gold, the piece is accented with 3.17 ct of diamonds. It sells for USD $12,300 at Neiman Marcus.

Jewel of the day: Ela Stone Majesty bracelet

French brand Ela Stone offers antiqued pieces with coins, charms, tassels, as well as simpler items with less embellishment. This pretty bracelet is described as “argent vielli” or antiqued silver, but for the 90 € price I am guessing this is silver plate. Pretty nonetheless.

Jewel of the day: Alice Cicolini green amethyst, diamond and gold lotus ring

Alice Cicolini was inspired by India’s Silk Route when she created this unique ring, with a carved flame-like green amethyst, set in 18k yellow gold with diamond accent. I know I’m too clumsy to wear something with a stone set so prominently, but what a fantastic statement piece this is. Sells for £830 at Matches Fashion online.

Jewel of the day: Sophie & Shannon’s Jewel Box five stone necklace

Shannon and Sophie Tweed-Simmons are using a cute concept to launch a line of accessories on at the end of July. They show that both mother and daughter can wear the same items, and yet achieve different looks.

The collection will include dresses, bags, belts and jewellery, and items will sell from USD $24-99. Shown here is a cute necklace that I could see on either a woman in her early 20s on her mom, depending on how the rest of the outfit is styled.
