Thoughts on jewelry, accessories and whatever else takes my fancy

Jewel of the day: Lola Rose York Ring

This is pretty, fun and on sale. Winning! By the UK’s Lola Rose, it’s a base metal plated band set with your choice of rose quartz on one side, and pink Persian agate on the other; or you could opt for white marble or obsidian.

Regularly priced at£60.00 it is now on sale for £18.00.

Jewel of the day: Liven Company Royal Cuff

This bracelet has impact and glitter but because it’s delicate looking, it is also very wearable on a daily basis. By Liven Company, it comes in 14k yellow, white or rose gold, with hand set diamonds.

The company notes,L I V E N is a contemporary fine jewelry line that is both fashionably fresh and classically timeless. Each piece is designed with the concept of refined wearability, making it the ultimate every day luxury. Combining innovation with artistry, the collection ranges from delicate pieces that feature clean lines and fine feminine details to bold, stunning, one of a kind beauties. Based in Los Angeles, L I V E N is coveted by celebrities and stylists alike for its dedication to quality and its signature style that fuses fashionably forward designs with a sophisticated edge.”

This sells for USD$3,250.

Jewel of the day: Catherine Canino Jagged Faceted Crystal Necklace

Two statement necklaces from NY-based Catherine Canino, both featuring chunky crystal stones on chain. She describes them as, “Jagged facetted crystal brilliant double row necklace with paper clip clasp and polished 14 karat gold over brass link 20” in blush (Left); smokey crystal briolette and emerald cut two row necklace with paper clip clasp and polished 14 karat gold over brass link 20” (Right).”

The lighter coloured stones make these lavish necklaces look a bit more understated and wearable, so you won’t need to wait for an occasion to pull one out. They each sell for USD$275.

Jewel of the day: Holst and Lee Lily Pond Earrings

As I write this it’s hot, it’s humid, and these summery turquoise coloured fringe earrings with coral coloured accents by Holst and Lee look like the perfect way to lift a look.

Other than noting each pair is handmade, there isn’t much info on materials. Safe to say, it’s cheerful costume jewelry. These sell for USD $145.

Jewel of the day: Pandora Silver Ring with Cubic Zirconia

Although I have a kind of chip on my shoulder for the way Pandora squeezed out Trollbeads (who, in my opinion, do it prettier and better and did it first, but are much less ubiquitous on the retail landscape), I give them credit for branching out beyond the add a bead bracelets.

They now offer a full range of pieces, including rings, necklaces and earrings. This simple ring is a narrow sterling silver band set with cubic zirconia stones, reminiscent of the Tiffany Etoile band (which comes in platinum and diamonds for considerably more).  This silver version is USD$50; it is also available in yellow gold and CZ for USD$350. Both pretty on their own or good for stacking.

Jewel of the day: Sonya Renee Drusy Teardrop Earrings

More loot from my recent Los Angeles visit: a pair of pretty (yeah, sparkly) earrings from Sonya Renee, set with very glittery druzy (or as she spells them, drusy) stones. They were available in white metal with different centres as well.

Part of Nordstrom’s recent anniversary sale, these were USD $49 when I purchased them. After the sale, they will be priced at $78.

Jewel of the day: Polly Wales Confetti Ring

So much jewelry, so little money! If I had unlimited funds, I would put some of them towards pieces like this wonderful ring by Polly Wales. She uses a unique process in which the stones are actually cast into the gold instead of set separately. This Confetti ring has 2.2 carats of sapphires in various colours set into 18k yellow gold.

She describes the ring as: “Rough-luxe at its most raw… this crystal ring features  an array of both large and small sapphires in rainbow colours that seem to erupt from the deeply eroded metal.  Each ring displays an entirely unique pattern of erosion.”

Note to self: must buy lottery tickets.

This ring sells for£2980.

Jewel of the day: Pave Opal Halo Stud Earrings

Another Los Angeles find was the store OK, on Third Street (there is another LA location in Silverlake). Inside, lots of intriguing design items and a lot of yummy jewelry.

These opal stud earrings by Pave are surrounded by a diamond halo and set in 14k yellow gold. They measure approximately 10 mm by 10 mm and sell for USD$770.

Jewel of the day: Bluhobo Meow Ring

For all you crazy cat ladies and lads out there, here is a way to proclaim your animal affections. Bluhobo offers a ring spelling out Meow, which they say is in tribute to Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. Meow indeed.

It’s rendered in 14k yellow gold and sells for $298. The site is based in Canada but it isn’t indicated if the prices are in Canadian or US dollars.
