Jewel of the day: Monica Vinader Fiji Friendship Bracelet

These bracelets by Monica Vinader come in a variety of cord colors and combinations. This one is representing red berry, which they attribute to luck.

Vinader notes, “This iconic friendship bracelet is an essential piece and the perfect gift for friends. The bracelet features a smooth, curved bar in 18ct Gold Vermeil on Sterling Silver. The bar measures 11cm in length, with a gap of approximately 5.5cm between each end. A toggle slides to easily adjust the cord’s length for a snug fit. Personalise with an engraving on the front of the bar and on the toggle.”

This sells for USD$185.

#2016 Oscars Tina Fey is blue and it suits her

I give this one an A …. that necklace is amazing. If she had only opted for a pair of sapphire earrings …. it would have been an A+. Another one that showed better onstage than on the red carpet. The gown is Versace; the jewels are by Bulgari (again).

#Oscars 2016 … and the winner is …

Give it to Charlize Theron and the simple but stunning pendant necklace by Harry Winston. Though it doesn’t look like that much in photos, the diamond piece came alive on stage and worked beautifully with her red gown by Christian Dior. Perfection.

#Oscars 2016: Dressing like a glass of milk

Rooney Mara’s stylist must hate her. In addition to being jewel-less, who suggested to her that it would be a great idea to look like 16 ounces of homogenized latte? Note: when you disappear into the cream background, this is not a good thing. The dress is like a couture version of blue screen.

And why did her hairdresser think it would be a fab idea to have her hair pulled back to tightly that her ears look alien and elfin and the little top knot looks like she’s waiting to be yanked heaven-ward by her hair? The gown is by Givenchy, thus cementing in my mind the thought that Riccardo Tisci really hates women.

#Oscars2016 or the day the jewel vaults stay closed

Aside from seeing some totally safe or totally WTF outfits, which admittedly are fun to watch (yes, Heidi Klum, I’m looking at your purple chiffon curtains masquerading as a dress), 2016 once again brings us a dearth of actual jewelry.

Thankfully,¬†Naomi Watts is bedecked by Chopard around her neck¬†and by Liev Schreiber on her arm, thus putting to rest the most recent round of “they broke up!” rumours.

I would like to think the night will continue to sparkle. But I doubt it.

Jewel of the day: Barry Brinker Labradorite Necklace

Love me some Labradorite, and this necklace by Barry Brinker has many lovely stones to admire. It is available from LA’s Roseark, though he also sells at other venues, and you can find out more about him and his work here.

This piece is sterling silver, and sells for USD$1,600.

Jewel of the day: Baublebar Ishigaki Drop Earrings

These pierced shoulder duster earrings (they are 5-1/2 inches long) from Baublebar have a certain IDGAF what you think about what I’m wearing vibe to them. Well, ok. Maybe more than that.

They are similar to Oscar de la Renta tassel earrings that cost considerably more but imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and … tassels. Not exactly a new design element but fun nonetheless.

These sell for UsD$34 and will allow you to get your earring attitude on as winter melts into spring.

Jewel of the day: The Pearl Antiques Vintage Sapphire and Diamond Ring

This is an elegant older design, showcasing three rose cut diamonds estimated to weigh approximately one carat, accented by calibre cut sapphires and round cut diamonds. It is set in 18k white gold and the ring is a size 5.5.

It is offered by The Pearl Antiques, based in Las Vegas and available online from Ruby Lane, and sells for USD$2,385.

Jewel of the day: Marc Jacobs Popcorn Brooch

Something tells me this one looked better as a sketch than as rendered, where it can also be interpreted as a beer, or semi-patriotic (just add blue) American …. thingy (maybe an attempt at a fungal Linconesque top hat?). I’m not that sure it’s terribly popcorn-like to me, but I find it’s weirdness strangely endearing.

This brooch by Marc Jacobs is available from Saks Fifth Avenue. It is made with glass pearls and Swarovski crystals set in base metal, and sells for USD$300.

Jewel of the day: Swarovski Spring 2016 ‘Between Heaven and Earth’

I was fortunate to have a preview of the Swarovski spring 2016 collection last fall, and there are some lovely pieces, mixed in with some more classic and outre offerings. Check with a Swarovski dealer or store near you for availability and pricing; these are also generally available online.
