Jewel of the day: Marie-Helene de Taillac Earrings

Though these earrings have a lot going on in terms of shape and stones, they are also light and somewhat delicate looking. Made with 22 karat gold, they are set with amethysts, pink and green quartz and aquamarine, all cut in a diamond shape. They sell for €4,750 from Colette.

A bit about the designer: When Marie-Hélène de Taillac launched in 1996, her first collection of delicate, deliciously colourful jewels, she sparked a revolution in the stodgy world of high-end jewellery. She found the finest jewellers in India, master craftsmen whose traditional methods date back to the time of 18th century Maharajahs. She experimented with unusual combinations of multi-coloured tourmalines, which had never really been done before. Her creations translate all the refinement, charm, ease and distinction that is the essence of Marie-Hélène de Taillac style.”

  1. €4700 is an awful lot of money for tourmalines of that quality. The colors should be rich, deep and clear. There’s no color in these at all.

    1. I agree … there is a lot of high end stuff that sells for those prices mostly because of the name associated with it (as you probably know), or the merchandising costs. Sometimes people would rather have a piece by a “name” and care less about the quality of the stones or workmanship.
