From Adin Antique Jewelry on Etsy, these earrings give a glimpse into fancy Victorian dress for the well heeled. As was the custom of the time, the diamonds are foiled, and in closed back settings. Interestingly, they are in 18k rose gold, (although that looks to me to be the hook only but there is some yellow/rose gold visible in the drops themselves.
The Belgium-based seller explains, “Early 19th century, these fine Victorian dangle earrings in 18K rose gold and 52 rose cut antique diamonds set on foil, lustre of diamonds to best quality. Earrings crafted circa 1840. The hallmark here represents a horse’s head and was in use in Belgium from 1831 and in France from about 1838. However, by the rectangular shape of the mastermark we tend to think it is of Belgian origin. Height 5,80 cm (2,28 inch). Weight 12,50 gram. This jewel comes with the certificate of authenticity.”
These sell for USD$4,200 and would be a perfect wedding day addition.
