Thoughts on jewelry, accessories and whatever else takes my fancy

Archive for the month “January, 2017”

Jewel of the day: Ambush SSS Zip Tie Bracelet

This bracelet by SSS (which I believe stands for Japanese company Surplus Sound System) reminds me more of a deconstructed Cartier Juste un Clou bracelet than a zip tie. It’s made of sterling silver and sells for ¥39,960, or about USD$350.  It’s available from Ambush Design online.

Jewel of the day: Ron Hami Rectangular Amethyst Stud Earrings

If you are looking for a gift for a Pisces friend, amethyst is February’s birthstone. But do you really need a reason to wear it? These pretty earrings are on sale at HauteLook, from Ron Hami. These are 14k yellow gold with rectangular amethysts and tiny diamond accents. Oh, and tiny is the operative word – these are quite dainty (1o mm in length), but a nice alternative to a traditional pearl or diamond stud. They are reduced by 60% to USD$210.

Jewel of the day: Elke Kramer Compound Ambrosia Ring

Australia-based Elke Kramer has a fresh take on jewelry, mixing resin with base metals in a way that makes old seem new. Here, a resin ring with a brass band. The site notes, “This solid statement ring features a half metal band and contrasting stacked resin discs. This ring fits comfortably on the hand to create a unique silhouette from any angle.”

The chunky silhouette is perhaps its coolest feature. This sells for $105.00 AUD.

Jewel of the day: Luna Skye Written in the Stars Charm Necklace

Luna Skye pieces are designed to be worn in multiples. Here, the necklace (at bottom in the photo) is shown with two other pieces from their collection.

This one is, according to the site, “Inspired by the pattern of the swirling stars and cosmos, the constellation collection was created. Having always had a love affair with outer space, and been fascinated with how much magic our sky up above us holds, created the perfect breeding grounds to inspire this collection. How one constellation, one star, is connected to a vast network of galaxies above us. Like a star in the sky, we are all connected in some way while no two people being the same.”

The necklace is made of 14k yellow gold with .40 carats of white diamonds; it sells for USD$1,985.

Jewel of the day: Mishky Beaded Blue Bracelet

Mishky allows women to support their families as they learn jewelry design and manufacture. They explain, ” Mishky supports women and children by accessing families in need thorugh numerous Foundations. With “mi mama para mi” (My mom for me), Mishky trains women of low income áreas to become expert artisans. Teaching techniques and improving skills, allows them to work from home, generate revenue, and provide their children with attention, support, and parent guidance that they so much need. Mishky´s mothers working for “Mi mama para mi” provide an honorable living for their families, instilling in their children the concept of working with dignity and ethics. With every (1) hour of work from home, one (1) Mishky bracelet is produced and one or more kids enjoy more time with their mother, learning, studying and sharing love.

This seed bead bracelet sells for USD$123.50.

Jewel of the day: Honora Gelato Stretch Bracelets

Honora used to be a more visible name in the jewelry scene so I was happy to stumble upon this set of three multicoloured freshwater pearl stretch bracelets. They offer an array of colour combos (purple/pink; black/white/grey; pastel) so you could theoretically buy one or two and mix them together.

These sell for Cdn$225 at The Bay.

Jewel of the day: Saressa Designs Lapis Lazuli Stud Earrings

These simple and lovely stud earrings by Etsy Seller Saressa Designs are polished and pretty. They are also very wallet friendly at USD$35.

Each pair is made to order, and the shop owner notes, “Every girl needs a gorgeous pair of everyday studs and these fit the bill perfectly. Genuine Lapis Lazuli stones have been secured with 14k Gold Filled wire in my original bezel wrapped style to create studs that can be worn with pretty much everything. These stones have been custom cut to resemble the Herkimer Diamond Quartz stones used in my shop. My unique wrapping style mixed with the unique geometric shape of these stones results in a modern pair of posts that you’ll love wearing. Shown in 14k Gold Filled wrap but also available in 14k Rose Gold Fill and Sterling Silver wrap. Posts are centered and come with hypoallergenic rubber backs and matching metal back. Lapis Lazuli: Approx 8 mm.”

At this price, you could afford to buy a second pair with a different stone and mix and match.

Jewel of the day: Polly Wales Ruby Ourika Earrings

I’ve only seen Polly Wales’s pieces twice but I remain smitten. These earrings are set with rubies and diamonds in 18 yellow gold. As Wales describes these on her site, Large pinched domes of gold with pear-shaped rubies surrounded by further tiny round brilliant rubies, baguette and brilliant diamonds cast directly into the metal’s surface. With long hook fastenings to create an elegant drop earring.”

Ruby total carat weight is 1.3; diamonds are .5 carats total weight, set in 18k yellow gold. Other colour combinations/stones are available upon request. These sell for USD$4.500.

Jewel of the day: Shay Sapphire and Diamond Eternity Band

Sapphire is my birthstone, diamonds are, well, diamonds, and I like eternity bands. Win! So this band by Shay is set with .98 carats of sapphires in varying blue hues and .30 carats of diamonds, set in 18k white gold.

It’s sold by Ylang 23, which notes, “Co-created by Ladan and Tania Shayan, Los Angeles natives and mother/daughter duo, the Shay collection is sophisticated and investment-worthy without sacrificing any glamour. Shay jewelry is handmade using diamonds and precious gemstones set in 18-karat gold and platinum. Pieces are meant to be stacked, layered and mixed-and-matched to create a jewelry wardrobe.

The hallmarks of Shay include an edgy take on geometry, delicate designs with big impact, and a unique perspective on Victorian and Art Deco inspiration, including baguette diamonds, and diamond-encrusted chain links as well as crescent moon pendants or updated star motifs to explore your ultra-feminine side.”

This sells for USD$2,079.

Jewel of the day: Mara Carizzo Scalise Wings Earrings

We may need all the divine intervention we can get in the coming years and what better than a pair of angel wings? These earrings by Mara Carizzo Scalise are made with 14k yellow gold, for pierced ears. The wing drops measure 3/4 of an inch.

I like her artist statement: “”The beauty of jewelry is that it remains forever, you wear it, you gift it with love, you pass yours to someone you really love, if you lose it someone else will find it and be happy and wear it and like that it goes on.  Metals have healing power and even more when you make them with an intention. This is what I believe.”

These earrings sell for USD$915.
