Thoughts on jewelry, accessories and whatever else takes my fancy

Jewel of the day: Love, Lisa Barbed Wire Choker

Chokers show no sign of flattening out as a trend, and this one has a tiny twist: a barbed wire design. By Love, Lisa, it is 6″ with a gunmetal lobster clasp closure set with black stones. The charm shown must be purchased separately (but it does look very cool with this piece). The necklace alone sells for USD$74.

Jewel of the day: Amarillo Jewelry Star Sisters Choker Necklace

So chokers are definitely in, but so is layering and stacking a bunch of delicate choker length necklaces to be worn at the same time. The Star Sisters piece is shown in this photo second down from the top (and all the necklaces are sold separately). If tasteful imagery isn’t your thing, they also sell a choker that spells out fuck. Because … you never know when you need to let people know that, all the time.

This is available in either sterling silver, or gold plated sterling. It sells for USD$188.

Jewel of the day: Stargaze Jewelry Opal Lili Choker Necklace

I am a sucker for opals and this is a pretty way to have or gift one at a good price. By Stargaze Jewelry, it’s available in either a gold or silver plated (over brass) 14 inch chain with a two inch extender. The size of the opal is not noted.

This sells for USD$39 and at the time of this writing, they were having a 40% off sale (which may not apply by the time this is posted).

Jewel of the day: Kathy Rose Rattlesnake Choker

I’m a fan of baguette cut stones and here they are used to good effect in a collar by Kathy Rose, outlining the “spine” of a rattlesnake in sterling silver and black diamonds.

Available exclusively at LA’s Roseark, this sells for USD$26,000.

Jewel of the day: Chan Luu Metallic Grey Floral Lace Choker

If I was going to wear a choker (which is probably unlikely as like the late Nora Ephron, I’ve come to realize I also feel bad about my neck ), it would probably be something like this one. By Chan Luu, it’s a strip of metallic floral lace embellished with Swarovski crystals. It measures 11 5/8″ – 14 1/4″ in length and is approximately 1 1/4″ wide. This sells for USD$115.

Jewel of the day: Baublebar Morgause Bib Necklace

Tis the season for dressing up and parties and generally anticipating the upcoming holidays. So if you needed a reason to break out the glitz, the next month or so should amply provide many.

This glitzy choker necklace from Baublebar ticks all the boxes for a festive holiday look. (Well, except for delicate. You’re out of luck if that’s one of your requirements.)

It is made with a zinc setting and acrylic (not glass) stones, but for USD$68, it provides the bling laden look you are probably seeing if this appeals. A merry and happy whatever it is you celebrate!

Jewel of the day: Annelise Michelson Algae Sea Leaf Choker

From Annelise Michelson‘s Algae collection comes this sea leaf choker (there are other pieces in the collection with the same motif). Not sure how comfortable this would be to wear but I like the look of it, standing up on the neck instead of draping downward. It’s made with silver or gold plated brass and sells for €1,125.

Jewel of the day: Lolita Wine Roses Choker

Lolita fashion, huge in Japan, is a deification of Victorian and Edwardian fashions – if Helena Bonham Carter designed them on acid. This means there is a lot of lace, ruffles, flowers and accessories, but with a Goth/dark twist.

This necklace is a fabric flower set onto a choker with beads; it’s a reasonable USD$12.99 from My Lolita Dress. Rest assured you can put together a complete look, literally head (veils, crowns, and diadems) to toe (think embellished Mary Janes) and everything in between.

Jewel of the day: Stella McCartney Open Hanging Pendant Necklace

Chokers are all the rage this fall, ranging from tight around the neck and ornate, to literal shoestrings tied and hanging loose. What I like about this necklace by Stella McCartney is that it looks like a choker gone rogue, pretty much saying, “Ah, the heck with it!”

It’s described as, “White brass and enamel open hanging pendant necklace from Stella McCartney featuring an open front, gold-tone hardware, brass hardware and an orb pendant.” OK, the unchoker.

This can be yours for USD$690.

Jewel of the day: Dries Van Noten Faux Pearl Embellished Necklace

Yep, it’s another choker, this time from Dries Van Noten. The piece, “is studded with faux pearls in an array of sizes for subtle contrast. The choker-style piece looks stunning worn with up-swept hair.”

It looks to me as though it sits a bit oddly but it’s definitely a different take on both pearls and chokers.

The piece is made of brass and acrylic, and sells for €645.
