Jewel of the day: Antique Irish Heart Locket

I am a sucker for lockets, though I never put photos or mementos in mine. This would be perfect for an Irish friend, or someone who just believes in the four leaf clover/shamrock as a bringer of luck. It has an enamel monogram on the reverse, which looks like the letters BA to me, though seller Dover Jewelry seems to have misidentified this as a botanical theme.

This is 18k yellow gold with green and red enamel. It weighs 23.1 grams and measures 40 mm long (including bail) and 26 mm wide.

It sells for USD$1,750.

Jewel of the day: Buccellati Pearl Diamond and Gold Necklace

Happy new year, all! I think it’s safe to say we are all happy to see the back of 2016 and hoping for better this year.

If I had this necklace, I think I would wear it every day. And why not – pearls go with everything, don’t they? From Dover Jewelry (from whom I have purchased some of my favourite things) this Buccellati necklace is a masterpiece is part of a set with matching earrings. Dover notes, “This captivating necklace is crafted in a combination of solid 18K white and yellow gold, incorporating lustrous silver silvery blue gray cultured pearls of excellent nacre, silk-strung in two and three strands. The attention-seeking organic gems are intersected by four creatively designed, highly ornate gold and diamond profiles of stylized crown shape, depicting tapering rows of diamonds, embellished with scrolled textural ends. A trio of semi-baroque silver-gray pearls enhance the central decor of the necklace, suspending from enchanting diamond and yellow gold.”

If you received some (ok, a lot of) Christmas cash that’s burning a hole in your pocket, you can have this for USD$84,999. Hey, you can’t take it with you so you might as well wear it!

Jewel of the day: Estate Men’s Cufflinks

There is something about some 60s and 70s design that benefits mightily from the seasoning of time. These cufflinks are a case in point. They’ve gone from being space age edgy to outdated, to retro to cool again. Nice magic trick, time.

Signed only by “Larry” (gotta love that), they are, “Finely crafted in solid 14K yellow gold, these cuff links are accented with 6 genuine round cut sapphires approx. 1.75ct, and feature hand made intriguing high polished raised circular design in solid 14k gold on top of matte finish cufflinks. Signed and hallmarked.” They weight a shade over 30 grams, so that’s a nice chunk of gold. They sell for USD$1,999 from Dover Jewelry. Just don’t pair them with a diamond pinky ring and you’ll be all set.

Jewel of the day: Dover Jewelry Vintage French Diamond and Ruby Bypass Ring

I really like the bypass, double stone ring; I think it’s charming and can accommodate larger stones without overwhelming the hand. This example, from Dover Jewelry, is set with a diamond and ruby; Dover describes it this way: This classically distinct engagement ring with an EGL certified round brilliant diamond and a vis-a-vis juxtaposed round faceted ruby (a design referred to in France with the romantic term ‘toi et moi’ is of French provenance, crafted in a combination of 18K yellow and white gold and weighs 6.2 grams. The EGL certified diamond measures 7.56 x 7.47 x 4.76 mm, weighs 1.66 cts and is graded H color and VS1 clarity. The round-faceted ruby weighs 2.00ct. Sensually curved shoulders rendered in white and yellow gold merge into a sleek and sizable shank. The ring bears inside the shank the French Hallmark and Mark of Assay and the ring is in pristine condition.”

Its sells for USD$16,999.

Jewel of the day: 21.06 Carat Diamond Engagement Ring

While on the subject of expensive baubles, here for your delectation is this rather massive diamond ring. On offer by Dover Jewelry, it is described thusly: This intriguingly fascinating vintage style diamond engagement ring with a unique and eminent 19.21ct breathtaking round European cut diamond at the center is crafted in solid platinum with a delightful touch of rose gold applied to the center-stone perimeter. This exquisite engagement ring signed ‘Ed.B’ weighs 18.1 grams and measures 19 mm in diameter and 13 mm high.  The distinguished 19.21ct  EGL certified diamond is graded J color and -VS 2 clarity  secured by 4 delicately designed paw-prongs, within a rose gold, pave diamond encrusted  perimeter. The immaculately designed vintage style openwork gallery depicts diamond-swathed fleur-de-lis profiles, and the well-designed gracefully forked shoulders set with pave diamonds and ornate rose gold ‘straps’ augment the cumulative weight of pave diamonds adorning this exquisite ring to 1.85 cts, all  graded G-H color and VS clarity. The  easily sizable shank partly set with pave diamonds is stamped inside with the goldsmith’s initials ‘Ed. B’ and ‘platinum’.  This sumptuous diamond engagement ring remains in pristine condition.”

Should you be enamoured of it to purchase, it is selling for USD$579,999.

Jewel of the day: Oscar Heyman Diamond and Sapphire Marquise Ring

The marquise is one of the diamond shapes that seems to have fallen out of favour in lieu of the round cut, halo set solitaire. But along with the pear, I have always liked the marquise shape. It has a don’t mess with me, sharp elegance that is very no nonsense.

The GIA graded centre diamond on this ring is a healthy 4.19 carats with a lovely E color, VS2 clarity, flanked by sapphires weighing 4.70 carats total, set in platinum. It’s a size 10 (I am imagining its former no-nonsense owner now…) Asking price is USD $$149,999 from Dover Jewelery.
