Jewel of the day: Kathy Bransfield Stay Awake Heart Pendant

I am fond of quotes engraved on jewellery and have quite a few pieces from Jeanine Payer, who closed up shop (regrettably) a few years back. Other designers do similar work; Kathy Bransfield has taken quotes from a variety of sources, using them as pendants with a different metal overlay.

About the designer: “Kathy Bransfield jewelry shares history’s most brilliant visionaries with you through her sterling silver and gold work. Most pieces open to reveal hand-stamped quotes or icons that embrace faith in humanity and a belief in life’s beauty and diversity. Each necklace is an essence of her playful and cheerful spirit. Kathy Bransfield jewelry is cherished by its wearers–many hold them as a sacred personal amulet. Kathy’s inspirational jewelry evokes passionate responses from long time collectors and new fans alike.”

This Stay Awake Heart pendant features a quote by the Persian poet Rumi:”Love has come to rule and transform, stay awake, my heart, stay awake.” The piece with the engraved quote is sterling silver, covered with a gold plated sterling cover. This sells for USD$100.

Jewel of the day: Poise Jewellers Monogram Bar Necklace

This bar necklace from Etsy seller Poise Jewellers gives you the option to engrave it with a name, location, or pretty much whatever fits on the rectangular bar.

It’s a cool gift that can be purchased inexpensively and easily personalized; great for wedding gifts, as the seller suggests. These are made of 18k electroplated stainless steel, so they are hypoallergenic and won’t turn black or green. The bars measure 6×36 mm and the chains are adjustable between 16″-18″.

This sells for US$20.08 and ships from Canada (Toronto).

Jewel of the day: Jeanine Payer Chai Earrings

Though the majority of Jeanine Payer’s pieces feature engraved poems or sayings, these earrings do not. They do have a lovely sense of whimsy, with silhouettes of butterflies, and one 18k yellow gold butterfly applied to each of the oxidized silver earrings. The French wire is also 18k yellow gold.

Each earring measures 1 11/16″ x 11/16″. These sell for USD $625 at Payer’s online shop; check the site for bricks and mortar retailers.

Jewel of the day: Monkeys Always Look Latitude Longitude wedding band

It’s great that wedding jewellery has broken away from traditional solitaires for engagement rings, and plain bands for wedding rings. This quirky mixed metals band (sterling and copper) can be engraved with the latitude and longitude of your wedding location, or any meaningful place. The inside of the band can also be engraved. It sells for USD $92 from jeweller Alison Cecil, based in San Diego, California.

Jewel of the day: MarLa Studio men’s Stars and Clouds ring

This ring by Evanston, Illinois jeweller Marla Wallerstein is billed as a men’s commitment ring, but I could see it being worn by men or women, and work equally well for non-marriage/commitment-related giving. Crafted in sterling silver, it is engraved with “by the stars and clouds above” on the outisde, and on the and inside, “we can spend our lives in love.” A beautiful sentiment for anyone. Available from The Giving Tree Gallery for USD $125.
