Jewel of the day: Poise Jewellers Monogram Bar Necklace

This bar necklace from Etsy seller Poise Jewellers gives you the option to engrave it with a name, location, or pretty much whatever fits on the rectangular bar.

It’s a cool gift that can be purchased inexpensively and easily personalized; great for wedding gifts, as the seller suggests. These are made of 18k electroplated stainless steel, so they are hypoallergenic and won’t turn black or green. The bars measure 6×36 mm and the chains are adjustable between 16″-18″.

This sells for US$20.08 and ships from Canada (Toronto).

Jewel of the day: Saint Laurent Monogram Cuff

Maybe because two of the YSL initials are in my own name, but I don’t actually find this monogram bracelet logo-obnoxious. In fact, it’s a pretty clever way to use the designer’s initials in an accessory. Though I notice that although Yves is now referred to solely as Saint Laurent, but obviously they needed the Y to give the design a bit of oomph.

This is made in black enamel coated brass and available for USD$695 at the YSL (SL?) website.

Jewel of the day: Moon and Lola Eye Chart Monogram Necklace

This is a nice take on the traditional monogram (which designer Moon and Lola also offers in abundance).

This pendant with an attached chain has all the letters of the alphabet with your initial(s) – up to three – punched out. It comes in gold vermeil; sterling silver and 14k yellow, white and rose gold. The chain is 16 inches, with a 3 inch extender.

This version sells for USD $148.

Jewel of the day: Saint Laurent Cassandre Monogram Cuff

Saint Laurent (or YSL or whatever your preferred moniker is) had a huge hit with their Arty ring, and they are now offering the Cassandre Monogram line, which is the  Y, S and L initials entwined in rings and bracelets. They are available in white, gold and rose gold metal. So even though they deleted the Yves from the brand name, the initial stuck.

This cuff is gold tone brass, and approximately 42mm. It sells for USD$795 at Barneys.

Jewel of the day: Kwiat Initial Pendant

Personalization and initials wax and wane in popularity. In the fifties (think Laverne’s huge L monogram on all her sweaters), sixties and seventies, this took the form of initials on monograms (singly or two or three, depending on whether you had a middle initial). Nameplate necklaces were and weren’t popular, and had resurgences periodically with shows like Sex in the City and Carrie’s well-known gold signature piece.

Tiffany’s Elsa Peretti has long had an initial collection in silver or gold, and more recently, Jennifer Meyer and Helen Ficalora do circular initial pendants beloved by celebs and ordinary peeps.

These insouciant script initials by Kwiat are a little jauntier than Peretti’s but remind me the most of her work. These are 18k yellow gold set with a .03 carat diamond. With an 18 inch chain, they sell for USD $750.
