Jewel of the day: Vinosus Jewelry Large Nest Peacock Pearl Necklace

Even though the pearls in this pendant are fixed to silver rods that criss cross the design, it still has a sense of movement to me. The designer notes, “Vinosus Jewelry is hand fabricated metalwork with only a little use of soldering, welding and casting. A signature brushed metal finish is applied to most of sterling silver and 14k gold-fill designs, with some offering a high polished finish. All pearls are fresh water, gems are AAA grade quality, and metals are sourced eco-friendly. When you wear Vinosus Jewelry you are wearing a piece of art made from the heart. All of Martin James Kneeland and Brit-Simone Sutter’s Vinosus Jewelry is handmade in their Seattle, Washington studio.”

This piece sells for USD$169.

Jewel of the day: Bijoux Heart Leaf + Wheat Sheaf Brooch

Bijoux Heart is a British brand that has looked to the past for inspiration but given their costume jewelry pieces a modern feel. Their work reminds me a lot of Miriam Haskell, with burnished gold findings, tiny seed pearls and an artful use of crystals.

This brooch is described as, “Large poured glass handmade leaves with branches of Swarovski handmade wheat sheaf crystal in a beautiful bouquet design, large Baroque pearl sits at the base of five large Swarovski baguette crystals which forms a high dome from the base, subtle shades of jonquil and clear crystal with finer details of sea pearls & crystal pave marquis cut stones “truly spectacular construction and scale” measures approx. 170cm in length and approx. 90cm in width. on a weighted filigree base and large pin, plated in 24ct gold.”

This sells for £790.

Jewel of the day: Honora Gelato Stretch Bracelets

Honora used to be a more visible name in the jewelry scene so I was happy to stumble upon this set of three multicoloured freshwater pearl stretch bracelets. They offer an array of colour combos (purple/pink; black/white/grey; pastel) so you could theoretically buy one or two and mix them together.

These sell for Cdn$225 at The Bay.

Jewel of the day: Buccellati Pearl Diamond and Gold Necklace

Happy new year, all! I think it’s safe to say we are all happy to see the back of 2016 and hoping for better this year.

If I had this necklace, I think I would wear it every day. And why not – pearls go with everything, don’t they? From Dover Jewelry (from whom I have purchased some of my favourite things) this Buccellati necklace is a masterpiece is part of a set with matching earrings. Dover notes, “This captivating necklace is crafted in a combination of solid 18K white and yellow gold, incorporating lustrous silver silvery blue gray cultured pearls of excellent nacre, silk-strung in two and three strands. The attention-seeking organic gems are intersected by four creatively designed, highly ornate gold and diamond profiles of stylized crown shape, depicting tapering rows of diamonds, embellished with scrolled textural ends. A trio of semi-baroque silver-gray pearls enhance the central decor of the necklace, suspending from enchanting diamond and yellow gold.”

If you received some (ok, a lot of) Christmas cash that’s burning a hole in your pocket, you can have this for USD$84,999. Hey, you can’t take it with you so you might as well wear it!

Jewel of the day: Dries Van Noten Faux Pearl Embellished Necklace

Yep, it’s another choker, this time from Dries Van Noten. The piece, “is studded with faux pearls in an array of sizes for subtle contrast. The choker-style piece looks stunning worn with up-swept hair.”

It looks to me as though it sits a bit oddly but it’s definitely a different take on both pearls and chokers.

The piece is made of brass and acrylic, and sells for €645.

Jewel of the day: Jason Wu Choker Pearl Necklace

One of the favourite designers of outgoing first lady Michelle Obama, Jason Wu recently added costume jewellery to his mix. And he’s big on pearls for fall 2016 (and I can’t believe it nearly IS fall.)

This clean and understated choker (there’s that trend again) “fastens” with a single offset pearl. Simple and effective.

This sells for USD$875 from Wu’s site.

Jewel of the day: ShopDesignSpark Caged Pearl Bracelet

One of the great things about inexpensive costume jewelry is that it can give you a different look, or mimic fine jewelry, for a fraction of the price gold and gems would cost.

Case in point: this faux pearl and metal bracelet for when you’re feeling a bit high society but don’t have the bucks or inclination to spend on upgrading your look. It sells for USD$28 from Shop Design Spark.

Jewel of the day: Ross-Simons Cultured Pearl and Diamonds Earrings

Pearl is June’s birthstone, and June is the month beloved by grads and brides. So it’s a match made in jewelry heaven. These pretty earrings would make a great wedding, grad or just because gift. From Ross-Simons, they feature freshwater pearls that are 6.5-7mm, and surrounded by a half halo of .25 carats total weight of white diamonds. As of this writing they were on sale for USD$296.25; regular price is $395.

Jewel of the day: Sidney Garber Pearl and Diamond Multistrand Necklace

You really can’t go wrong with pearls (and sprinkle in some diamonds for good measure) for a classic and polished look. Sidney Garber’s messy multi strand necklace takes it up a notch and makes it all much less formal.

Exclusive to Barneys, they describe it this way: “Crafted of 18k white gold strung with Akoya pearl and black diamond beads, Sidney Garber’s necklace consists of a long strand that wraps around your neck and a separate shorter strand. Two detachable black-diamond-encrusted oval clasps allow this luminous necklace to be worn as three long strands or as six shorter strands.”

This can be yours for USD$22,680.
