Jewel of the day: Atelier de Montplaisir Antique Sapphire Cabochon Ring

This sapphire ring, offered by Etsy seller Atelier de Montplaisir, is quite the looker. The single stone weighs in at a hefty 23 carats, cut in a cabochon style. It is in an 18k yellow gold setting the seller dates to the mid-eighteenth or early nineteenth century, though it is not hallmarked. It is currently a size 4.75.

It can be yours for USD$25,000.

Jewel of the day: Valentine Rouge Opal Station Necklace

I now have several pieces by Toronto-based Valentine Rouge and I’m becoming a big fan. The jewellery is meticulously made with quality materials, often semi-precious, which make the designs look richer than they actually are.

This necklace, whose sister piece I saw in person on the weekend, is made of pink opals and and sapphire stations with blue topaz. It can easily be worn doubled for more versatility (worn as a single strand it measures 40 inches).

This sells for CDN$389.

Jewel of the day: Blue Nile Petite Ruby and Diamond Huggie Earrings

These pretty, sparkly earrings by Blue Nile truly do hug the ear lobe, but the rubies give enough colour that they don’t simply fade away due to their smaller size.

A half-inch in diameter, you can also opt for blue or pink sapphires or emeralds set in 14k white gold, and the price makes it easier to buy more than one: USD$495. So if you bought your mother an appliance for Mother’s Day today, (whomp, whomp, whomp) unless she asked for that, they ship expedited if amends need to be made.

Jewel of the day: Arman Sarkisyan Sapphire Stud Earrings

As a September baby, I’m partial to sapphires. Arman Sarkisyan offers these cabochon sapphire stud earrings ringed with diamonds. The setting is 22k yellow gold and oxidized sterling silver.

These are currently on sale at Single Stone San Marino, from $4,310.00 to the new price of $2,586.00.

Jewel of the day: Rusty Thought Teal and Golden Sapphire Ring

Rusty Thought is a Japanese jewelry brand by Ryo Katori. Vendor Twist Online notes the company uses “traditional jewelry making techniques such as ‘shippo-yaki’ (cloisonné enamel) and ‘ohaguro’ burning (resulting in a black rust effect on iron), Rusty Thought is a quiet, restrained collection of jewelry to be handed down to the next generation. Meant to show their individual patina over time as they change little by little with each day they are worn.”

The site explains, “This striking, elegant combination of stones gives this Rusty Thought ring its quiet luxury. Pale green and golden sapphire stones are asymmetrically cut and covered in a surface of light reflecting facets. They are set in hand-fabricated 18K yellow gold settings and centered on a 18K yellow gold band.Perfect for someone just beginning to collect fine jewelry, it could also be worn as a modern alternative to the traditional diamond engagement ring.”

It sells for USD$1,880.

Jewel of the day: Stephen Russell Art Deco Diamond and Sapphire Bracelet

This post is really more eye candy than anything else, as the Stephen Russell web site is one of those with a paucity of information about what it is they are selling. Something I will never understand – why even have a web presence if you aren’t going to help people make an educated decision to buy, especially with jewellery?

All I can say is that it’s pretty, it’s supposedly art deco and I am guessing set with a large sapphire and diamond tear shaped stones, set in platinum. Price, as well as other details, remain a mystery.

Jewel of the day: Antique 23 Carat Sapphire Ring

Sapphire is my birthstone, and I’d be oh so happy if someone decided I needed this as a gift. The pale blue 23 carat cabochon (though it looks a bit pointed so maybe it’s a sugarloaf cut) sapphire is swoonworthy. It’s set in an 18k yellow gold band, no hallmarks according to Etsy seller Atelier de Mon Plaisir.

Already a substantial sized stone, this must have looked gigantic on the original wearer’s hand, given that the ring size is a very petite 4.75. This sells for USD$7,000.

Jewel of the day: Mousson Orchid Sapphire Ring

Didn’t want to risk forgetting the September birthstone though as it’s also mine, I probably wouldn’t. And hey, how did we get to be in September already anyhow?? I always have mixed feelings. It’s nice to celebrate another birthday but I hate that summer seems “over,” even though it’s not officially done for a while yet. Boo, hiss.

On to sapphires, a cheerier topic. And this luscious orchid ring design by Mousson. It’s made with black and white gold, inlaid with diamonds, violet sapphires, sapphires, and accented with enamel. This sells for USD$3,485 USD and is available in other gold colours and stone combinations.

Jewel of the day: Allurez Oval Blue Sapphire and Diamond Ring

So you can’t get Diana/Kate’s sapphire engagement ring out of your head… but you don’t want to spend Windsor-sized bucks (pounds?) to get one.

This ring by Allurez offers a ring that can be customized from 1.5 to 6.4 carats total weight (they don’t specify carat weight for the diamonds and the sapphire separately), from USD$990 to $5,150. Gold is either 14k white or yellow.

Look on the bright side – all of the ring without any of the regal responsibilities and criticism. Win!
